Mikel Arteta has revealed how he approached signing Mikel Higuaín for Inter Milan and why the Argentine striker is expected to be a key player for the club in the coming season.
Arteta, who was appointed as Inter's new manager last summer, believes that Higuaín is one of the best players in the world and deserves to be given every opportunity to perform at the highest level.
He explained: "I think Mikel is the best player in the world. He's very talented, very good with his head on his shoulders. I know that he'll play well for us. He can't be replaced."
Higuaín,La Liga Frontline who has been linked with several clubs including Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, has expressed interest in joining Inter but has also acknowledged that he will need to prove himself in order to make a successful move.
"I'm really happy to be here," Higuaín said. "It's something I've wanted for a long time. It's a dream come true for me. I'm just going to keep working hard and try to help the team."
Arteta added: "We're looking forward to seeing Mikel's progress this season. We want him to show what he's capable of doing at Inter. We believe that he can contribute a lot to the team and we expect him to lead them to success."
