Luka Modric has been announced as Real Madrid's new captain ahead of the upcoming season. The Croatian midfielder, who is currently in his fourth spell at the club, was appointed by Los Blancos on Wednesday.

Modric's appointment comes after he led the team to two consecutive La Liga titles in 2016-17 and 2017-18. He has also won the Champions League with the club twice, most recently in 2018.

The 34-year-old has played over 500 games for Real Madrid since joining from Dinamo Zagreb in 2005. He has made over 150 appearances for the national team, scoring six goals.

As captain, Modric will be responsible for leading the squad both on and off the pitch. He will work closely with manager Zinedine Zidane, who has already stated that he believes Modric can help the team win more silverware.

"Modric is a leader,Campeonato Brasileiro Action" said Zidane. "He has experience and knows how to handle pressure situations. He is a great player and I am confident that he will lead us to success."

With Modric in charge, Real Madrid will look to build upon their recent successes and compete for honours this season. The club have signed several key players during the summer transfer window, including Eden Hazard from Chelsea and Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite the signings, Real Madrid remain one of the favourites to win the league title again this season. They finished second last year, behind Barcelona, but Zidane believes they have what it takes to challenge for the top spot once again.

"We are a strong team," said Zidane. "We have quality players and we know how to play football. We will work hard and try to win every game."
